Kaylee RichardsonOn today’s show, we chat with Kaylee Richardson, who runs the Farm on Quail Hollow and posts about her life as a modern-day homesteader @the_honeystead. She shares the nitty-gritty details of what it takes to produce most of your food from your own farm both in beautiful photos and via informative YouTube videos.

She’s grown her apiary substantially, building up from a couple of hives into a small, sideline business. Currently she’s in the process of relocating her colonies from her garden to a separate spot, where their flightpath won’t be obstructed by foot traffic.

We had a chance to talk about what it takes to live the life she has embraced with her family, the ups and downs, the joys and the hardships. She’s learning about herbalism, so she can incorporate more of the plants she grows and forages for on their farm in Virginia into her diet and the skincare products she produces.

Join us, as we learn more about The Honeystead.

Kaylee Richardson Profile Photo

Author / Herbalist / Beekeeper

Kaylee is a beekeeper, herbalist, homemaker, and the published author of The Beekeeper’s Apothecary, as well as the founder of the Bee Attuned Mushroom Blend. Based in Virginia, she embraces a life that weaves together many roles, finding deep purpose in the balance each one brings.

Her journey began with a desire to teach her children a more grounded, intentional way of living—one that often feels overlooked in today’s fast-paced world. Alongside her husband, she has built a life centered around raising livestock, growing their own food, foraging for mushrooms, crafting by hand, and preparing nourishing meals at home.

Returning to nature became a path of healing for Kaylee. Through her work with honey bees—the original herbalists—she has developed a deeper understanding of how true wellness is built from the ground up. She believes that, much like the hive, we thrive when we live in alignment with the natural world around us.

Today, Kaylee speaks to audiences nationwide as an educator and workshop leader, sharing practical, encouraging guidance for those longing to live more rooted and connected lives. Through The Honeystead, her classes, and her writing, she gently reminds others that healing doesn’t require perfection—just small, steady steps forward and a willingness to learn something old in a modern world.
