Founder & Owner, Foxhound Bee Company
Adam Hickman is the founder and owner of Foxhound Bee Company, a beekeeping supply company and education center based in Irondale, Alabama.
He started keeping bees in 2012 out of his home in Hoover, and two years later founded Foxhound after spotting a gap in the market: plenty of retailers sold beekeeping gear, but almost none paired it with real education to help people actually succeed with their bees. That combination, quality equipment backed by hands-on know-how, became the foundation of the business, and in 2020 Hickman left his prior career to run Foxhound full-time.
Hickman is a Master Beekeeper certified through the Eastern Apiculture Society. What started as a single hive has grown into a full storefront and education center in Irondale, serving hobbyist and sideliner beekeepers with equipment, classes, and hands-on instruction, alongside a national e-commerce operation reaching beekeepers and honey-lovers nationwide.
Before beekeeping, Hickman trained as a chef and worked as a recipe developer, contributing to Cooking Light and Food & Wine. That background still shapes how Foxhound talks about honey, wax, and other hive products, from harvest to kitchen use.
He most recently served as lead bee wrangler and on-set consultant for the film The Rivals of Amziah King, in theaters nationwide August 21.
Hickman and Foxhound have been featured in Business Alabama, AL.com, CBS 42, NPR's Marketplace, and StyleBlueprint, and on podcasts including EcomCrew, The Beekeeper's Corner, and Eating Alabama.
